The Reflection is a playful multipurpose craft that will excel where control is the primary goal, be it in wind, currents, waves, chop, obstacles, explorations, instructional or teaching situations.

The Reflection project started out as a custom personal design for the different kinds of kayaking that I do (Reg Lake). That would be a lot of poking around and photography, moving water like Deception Pass, surfing like Hobuck, Crescent beach, boat wakes, wind waves, also standing waves on the rivers or tide races like Skookumchuck. Big enough to haul the camping essentials. Yet compact enough for playing in the arches, tunnels and caves, etc.,light and strong are important to me: light for independence getting to the water and on portages, strong for dependability. And lastly I want a kayak that is easily controlled and has no surprises when running selected whitewater rivers. The thought throughout the process was that this kayak has to speak for itself, and it does. We think any paddler that gets an opportunity to test paddle the Reflection will agree.

Sterling  Progression

Expanding on our established and popular lineage, we wanted to build another kayak that will grow with the paddler’s skills.  Whether they are aspiring rough water paddlers - enticed by greenland style rolling - or enjoy flat-water day trips or multi-day journeys, the Progression - a smaller version of its older sibling, the Reflection - fits into the ever-so-popular 16 feet by 22 inch kayak class, with precise measurements listed below. With design elements such as a swooping back-deck, whitewater-inspired mid-section, rounded style bow/stern, a soft V-shaped hull, radiused rails and the traditional Sterling-style stern, this kayak is very maneuverable, easy to control/roll, super fun to paddle, and is already receiving best-in-class accolades from those who have tested it.

Sterling  Ice Kap

Kayak built for the Smaller Paddler

Why we designed the "Ice Kap" standard model

Sterling calls the Ice Kap  "The Equalizer".

A small framed person paddling a regular sized kayak often has difficulty keeping pace with their group or paddling partner.  The cause: being in a kayak that is too big for their build, arms held high to clear the deck and combing, a loose fit that leads to lack of control and edging ability and generally just too much boat to push through the water.   The Ice Kap is an extremely high performance kayak with a skeg.  Built with Sterling's strong-lite construction technique from quality materials, this creates a kayak that weighs from 32-42 lbs. depending on the lay-up chosen. The Ice Kap is stable, very easy to control with boat lean and paddle strokes and a perfect fit for a lean or small framed paddler.
